Author’s Note: Pair of Thieves sent me these free boxer briefs for review. However, I did *not* receive any other compensation and all opinions are my own.
Pair of Thieves is a popular men’s underwear brand in the United States. More importantly, it is homegrown in Culver City (Los Angeles), where I grew up. So I’d love a chance to support a hometown men’s underwear brand.
In 2022, I reviewed the Pair of Thieves’ Hustle collection. Unique to this collection is the use of Pair of Thieves’ proprietary Cool Breeze Pouch, a V-shaped separated pouch. While other brands feature separated pouches—read my complete Guide to Men’s Underwear Pouches here—Pair of Thieves only has it on their Hustle boxer briefs. Additionally, the Hustle boxer briefs had a very high Spandex fabric blend—around 20%—which made them quite luxurious.
In 2024, Pair of Thieves contacted me to review their new Quick Dry boxer briefs. The Quick Dry lineup is more middle-class than the higher-end Hustle collection. They look and feel like standard boxer briefs and are made for everyday wear. The price is also lower than Hustle boxer briefs, making it more affordable to stock up.
So how did I like these Quick Dry boxer briefs? Keep reading to find out!
Pair of Thieves Quick Dry Polyester Boxer Briefs
Pair of Thieves has two versions of its Quick Dry Boxer Briefs: Action Blend and Action Blend Cotton. The difference is the material. The Action Blend is polyester-based, whereas the Action Blend Cotton is cotton-based.
Before trying them on, I examined each kind first. I noticed the polyester Quick Dry boxer briefs were much lighter than the cotton-based ones. You can easily feel the difference on your hands. Thus, I tried the polyester ones first, as I felt I would like them better.
After slipping on the polyester Quick Dry boxer briefs, I could tell that Pair of Thieves developed a solid pair of underwear. The inseam length of 5″ is perfect for all sorts of activities. The fabric is lightweight and smooth against the skin. The waistband is the perfect width, not too flashy, and also smooth. The solid colors were quite nice, especially the darker blues.
Note that Pair of Thieves has mesh fabric on the pouch and on the inner thighs instead of the regular polyester blend fabric. The mesh fabric is designed to provide additional cooling to high sweat areas. A lot of men’s underwear brands have these “mesh zones” designed in their underwear, to varying degrees of effectiveness. It really depends on how much you sweat and where as to how much benefit you’ll get. The photo below shows the difference between the two fabric areas.
I wore these Pair of Thieves boxer briefs, and I definitely like them! I didn’t notice I was wearing them, which is always a plus for underwear. They were very comfortable at home, while sleeping, and at the gym. And for the price of around $8/pair, it is hard to beat these polyester-based Quick Dry boxer briefs.
The only not-so-positive comment I will make is that the vertical fly opening is not that big. I don’t generally use flys, preferring to go over my waistband instead. But I wanted to try it out for this review, and it wasn’t easy to use. I am not even that big!
Quick Dry Polyester vs. Hustle
I reviewed the Pair of Thieves Hustle boxer briefs when they first came out in 2022. The Quick Dry boxer briefs are different in several ways.
First, Hustle boxer briefs cost more: you can buy a three-pack of Quick Dry boxer briefs for the price of a Hustle two-pack. The price difference probably comes down to two main features of Hustle boxer briefs.
As mentioned above, Hustle boxer briefs have a V-shaped separated pouch. Pair of Thieves calls it their Cool Breeze Pouch. The Quick Dry boxer briefs just have a standard, non-separated pouch. The Cool Breeze Pouch is comfortable, but not necessary unless you sweat a lot in your groin and need fabric separation between your balls and your groin and thighs.
Next, Hustle boxer briefs are made from 80% nylon and 20% Spandex/elastane. This is a much more luxurious fabric blend than the Quick Dry polyester boxer briefs. Not to say that the Quick Dry blend doesn’t feel good – it does! – but the Hustle boxer briefs feel silkier.
Also, as I mentioned in my Hustle review, I only recommend the solid colors of Hustle boxer briefs as I thought the printed versions have a rougher fabric finish.
Quick Dry Polyester vs. Puma
I have long raved about my Puma Performance Boxer Briefs – see my complete review here. How would I compare these Pair of Thieves to Puma’s Performance Boxer Briefs? They are similar, with some noticeable differences.
Puma does not include a fly, whereas these Quick Dry boxer briefs from Pair of Thieves have a standard vertical fly. On the other hand, I find Puma’s pouch to be a bit roomier than Pair of Thieves.
Next, Puma’s boxer briefs have a 4″ inseam, which is on the shorter end of men’s boxer briefs. These Quick Dry boxer briefs are 5″, so not that much longer, and either brand is fine for everyday wear. However, if you suffer from leg chafing (skin irritation) or have problems with riding up because you have thicker thighs, then Pair of Thieves also offers an 8″ version. You will want to get the 8″ long-leg version if you have either of those two problems. Otherwise, 4″ or 5″ does not make much of a difference.
Finally, Puma sells flashier colors and prints of its Performance Boxer Briefs compared to Pair of Thieves. You may not care about the colors, or you may like both – flashier Pumas for the gym and more subtle Pair of Thieves for work.
Pair of Thieves Quick Dry Cotton Try-On
Pair of Thieves also sent me the cotton version of their Quick Dry boxer briefs to test. As my readers know, I am not a fan of cotton. I far prefer lighter materials such as modal and bamboo for everyday wear. I know many guys love cotton, but I also recommend men try modal and bamboo and compare the differences.
As such, I did not have high hopes for the Quick Dry Cotton blend. I wore them for a few days, and they were okay, as expected. The cotton material is thick and warmer than the polyester Quick Dry and my other modal and bamboo underwear. In other words, I noticed that I was wearing these cotton boxer briefs, unlike the polyester version.
The cotton blend is the same length as the polyester version, which is great. It also has the same fly design, which is on the smaller side. I like the waistband on the cotton Quick Dry boxer briefs better as the waistband is softer. I also like that the waistband did not have any branding (a small Pair of Thieves logo is under the waistband on the front).
If you love cotton underwear, you may love these Pair of Thieves. However, if you aren’t in love with cotton, get the polyester version or consider trying some bamboo or modal boxer briefs. Some of my favorites are Jockey’s modal boxer briefs, David Archy’s bamboo trunks and boxer briefs, and Calvin Klein’s modal boxer briefs.
Details and Notes
Using my Ultimate Guide to Men’s Boxer Briefs, below is my summary of the specifications of these Pair of Thieves boxer briefs.
- Length: The Quick Dry collection comes in two lengths: 5” standard boxer briefs and 8” long-leg boxer briefs. The 5” boxer briefs are ideal for everyday wear. You’ll want to get the 8” boxer briefs if you have problems with skin irritation (chafing) on your legs, or if you have thicker thighs and have problems with boxer briefs riding up.
- Price: Three-packs are $25, which is reasonable at around $8/pair. The cost is the same whether you get the Action Blend or Action Blend Cotton. There is also no price difference between the standard boxer briefs and the long-leg boxer briefs – some companies charge more for the long-leg boxer briefs, but not Pair of Thieves.
- Colors and Patterns: Pair of Thieves only sells solid colors of its Quick Dry boxer briefs. The solid colors are primarily black or shades of blue or gray, yet shades of green and purple are also available. Note that the Cotton selection of colors is more limited compared to the polyester Action Blend lineup. You’ll be fine with the Quick Dry collection if you are good with no-nonsense, standard colors. However, you’ll want to look elsewhere if you are looking for sporty or bold prints and colors.
- Material and Fabric: Quick Dry boxer briefs come in two flavors: Action Blend and Action Blend Cotton. There is a big difference between the two blends. The Action Blend (92% polyester, 8% Lycra) is what most guys would expect with athletic or sports-geared underwear. The material is slippery, lightweight, and equivalent to sports boxer briefs from Hanes or New Balance. However, generally, I prefer at least 10% Spandex (Lycra) content for greater stretch; Puma’s Performance Boxer Briefs have 15%, for example.
- On the other hand, Action Blend Cotton (57% cotton, 37% polyester, 6% Lycra) is much thicker and feels like cotton underwear, which it is. It is soft but not as soft as modal or bamboo underwear.
- Flys: Quick Dry boxer briefs feature a standard vertical fly, which is easy to use.
- Ball Pouches: Unlike the Hustle collection, all Quick Dry boxer briefs have a standard, non-separated pouch. The pouch is comfortable and includes a mesh exterior for greater airflow and temperature control.
- Branded Waistbands: The Quick Dry Action Blend collection has small ¨Pair of Thieves” text around the waistband. It is no different than most other underwear brands and isn’t obnoxious. However, for those who don’t want any visible logos, Pair of Thieves didn’t put any waistband logos on the Quick Dry Action Blend Cotton boxer briefs. Instead, a small logo is below the waistband to remind you of what you are wearing.
- Multipacks: Pair of Thieves only sells its boxer briefs in multipacks. The Quick Dry collection comes in three-packs.
- Design Country: United States
